What is the difference between public IP and exclusive IP? Which one is better

1. What are public IP and exclusive IP?

Public IP: Public IP addresses are unique on the Internet. Each device that accesses the Internet will have one or more public IP addresses. These IP addresses are provided by Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and users can access the Internet and communicate with other devices through these public IP addresses.

Public IP addresses are usually dynamically assigned by the ISP to each Internet-connected device, and each time the device connects to the Internet, it is assigned a temporary public IP address.

Exclusive IP: An exclusive IP address is a fixed IP address provided exclusively for a specific user. This address never changes, and only the user who owns it can use it to access the Internet.

Dedicated IP addresses are usually purchased for a fee as they offer greater security and stability. Unlike public IP addresses, private IP addresses can be used for a variety of purposes, such as website hosting, mail servers, etc.

2. The difference between public IP and exclusive IP

Stability: Dedicated IP addresses have higher stability because they are fixed. Whenever a user needs to access the internet, they can use the same IP address to connect. In contrast, public IP addresses can change frequently, especially if users frequently disconnect and reconnect to the Internet.

Security: Dedicated IP addresses are generally more secure than public IP addresses. Because exclusive IP addresses are fixed, it is easier to set up and maintain network security policies. In addition, an exclusive IP address can provide better DDoS defense and traffic cleaning services to enhance security.

Availability: Since public IP addresses are shared, there may be interference from other users. For example, if other users use the IP address to perform inappropriate operations, they may be banned or have access restricted. In contrast, a dedicated IP address is dedicated, so users can use it more freely without fear of interference from other users.

Cost: Public IP addresses are usually free and provided to users by ISPs. An exclusive IP address needs to be purchased for a fee, and the cost varies according to different service providers and regions.

3. Which one is better?

Choosing a public IP or a dedicated IP depends on the user's specific needs and budget. Here are some considerations:

Budget: If you are on a budget, public IP addresses may be a better choice since they are usually free. However, if you require greater stability and security, you may want to consider purchasing a dedicated IP address.

Requirements: If you need a fixed, dedicated IP address for specific network activities, such as website hosting and email servers, then a dedicated IP address may be a better choice. They provide greater stability and security, and can better meet specific needs.

Management: For businesses or individuals who need to frequently manage network equipment and network security policies, a dedicated IP address may be more suitable. Because the fixed IP address makes device management and security policies more convenient and reliable.

Flexibility: Public IP addresses may be more suitable for devices and scenarios that require flexible access to the Internet, such as mobile devices or devices for temporary use. These devices and scenarios may not require a fixed IP address, or may only require a short-term fixed IP address.

To sum up, public IP and exclusive IP each have their own advantages and disadvantages, and which one is better depends on your specific needs and budget. If you require greater stability and security, and your budget allows, a dedicated IP address may be a better choice.

If you only need short-term network access or have a limited budget, a public IP address may be more suitable. When choosing, you need to comprehensively consider your actual situation in order to choose the solution that best suits you.
